  What if one playing card could tell you far more than its name?  

I was never completely satisfied with the way I was using playing cards. Revealing a selection was fine, but I wanted something deeper. 

 So I challenged myself:  Give a participant a deck. Let them freely remove one card. And from that single card, discover as much as possible about them.  

Not just:  “It’s a high card… it’s red… it’s a heart… you’re thinking of the Seven of Hearts.”  That was where my exploration began, not where I wanted it to end. 

 I wanted the card to become a doorway.  A doorway into the images they were seeing in their mind.  Into the parts of their life occupying their thoughts.  Into their concerns, questions, memories and personal symbols.  

And eventually, into the exact question they were silently asking. 

 One Card is a 42-page exploration of that journey.  

It is not a collection of unrelated tricks. It is one central idea that evolved through the years into six different variations, each exploring a different way of extracting meaningful information from a single freely chosen card.  

Inside, I explore approaches for revealing:  

Their zodiac sign 

Their birthday 

Their area of concern 

The exact vision or image in their mind 

Their exact question 

And, in some approaches, even the answer  

All from one card.  

 The deck becomes more than a deck.  The card becomes more than a card. 

 It becomes a small window into someone’s inner world.  

One Card is especially suited to performers who enjoy psychic, intuitive and personal styles of mystery performance, although the underlying ideas can be explored by anyone.  

One card.  

One participant.  

And potentially, an extraordinary amount of information.
